News hint :A pair of policemen lost their lives in an attack by
a gang of armed robbers who attacked a
bullion van belonging to the CBN
– The police force reported the incident but regrets that some of his men were injured while two died. The robbers did not succeed, he noted.
Some evil armed robbers on Tuesday, August
16, 2016 reportedly attacked a bullion van
owned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
According to a report by the Vanguard, the
attack occurred at the Hawan Kibo hills, near
Riyom in Plateau state.
Two policemen attached to the van as
escorts were killed while three others
sustained serious injury.
To confirm the incident, the spokesman of
state police command, Mr Terna Tyopev,
said the bullion van was carrying money
from Jos to Lafia in Nasarawa state.
“It was a clear case of ambush; they were
attacked unexpectedly.
“Policemen escorting the bullion van repelled
the attack; unfortunately we lost two of our
men on the spot, while three other were badly
injured,” he said.
He said the robbers failed to take the money
from the bullion van because policemen
responded vigorously and reacted firmly.
He added that investigations had
commenced into the incident.
There are reports that the increasing cases
of robbery in Plateau state have created
panic among residents.
Barely a week ago, journalists in in the state
were left in shock after a band of armed
robbers attacked the zonal office of the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The criminals struck in the early
hours of Thursday morning and broke all the
offices.
